Meet Dr. Jonathan James

Dr. James is originally from Covington, Louisiana, about 30 miles north of New Orleans. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in biology from Grambling State University in 1995 and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 2000. In 2007, after practicing for seven years in Dallas, Texas, Dr. James, his wife Daneen, and daughter Jordan relocated to Harlingen, Texas to join the Rio Vista Dentistry team, of which he is now co-owner.

Because he is committed to practicing excellent comprehensive dentistry,  Dr. James understands the importance of ongoing education. To that end, he has completed the advanced and master’s level continuing education courses at the Center for Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry in Dallas and continues to supplement his training with ongoing studies at the highly regarded Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Key Biscayne, Florida, as well as numerous other local and national advanced courses.

Having developed a particular passion for cosmetic, complex restorative and implant dentistry, Dr. James employs the latest technological advancements, like CEREC® CAD/CAM dentistry, to deliver excellent predictable results in a single visit. He is a certified CEREC trainer for Patterson Dental Supply Company and he has completed multiple advanced-level training courses through the training facility at the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry. As a distinguished mentor for, he travels to Scottsdale, Arizona several times a year to help train other dentists in the use of this technology. In addition, he founded the South Texas Study Club to support the education of CEREC dentists here in the Rio Grande Valley. He is a published author in quaterly journal and was named as a 2015 and 2016 Texas Super Dentist in Texas Monthly magazine.

Dr. James has become a sought after motivational speaker, lecturer and presenter in the dental field. He has lectured for the global dental implant company Nobel Biocare and is a member of their Future Leaders Advisory Council. He has also presented at the Annual Dentists Who Care conference, the Rio Grande Valley Dental Society as well the South Texas Chapter of the Seattle Study Club, of which he is also a member.

Dr. James loves his profession immensely and actively promotes dentistry as a career choice by volunteering at local elementary and high schools.

When he’s not practicing dentistry, Dr. James enjoys movies, spending time with his family, jazz music, traveling, classic cars, and taking a good nap!
